How to Get Free Drinks and Refills at Starbucks

I remember back in the day how I used to make fun of people who went to Starbucks and paid $6 for a venti pumpkin spice latte. Fast forward 2 years and boom, I became one of those people.

Since I always go to Starbucks, I started to realize how expensive it did get every week. So I had to find a way to make my visits cheaper. Yes, I could’ve stopped going there, but I mean seriously, why would I deprive myself of my venti white chocolate mocha latte with 2 extra white chocolate pumps?

So I had to find a way to save money at Starbucks. Thankfully, one of the baristas introduced me to the Starbucks Rewards program.

By joining the Starbucks rewards program, you will have access to a free treat on your birthday, free in-house refills, free drinks every 12 purchases, and other delicious surprises – something most people don’t even know about.

How to Get Free Drinks at Starbucks

In order to get free drinks at Starbucks, you must first register for the Starbucks Reward program, which is very simple. From there, you must register a card under your account. This can be done by picking up any Starbucks gift card and registering it to your account. You can also download the app, which also allows you to pay for your drinks with your eCard.

Then from there, you have to load your card with any amount that you choose.

Once you finish that, all you have to do is make a purchase with your registered Starbucks card, or app and you’ll automatically get a  star for every purchase. These stars signify your rating and membership level (learn more below).

  • The entry level when you first register your card
  • You’ll get a free birthday drink or treat loaded into your account (if you register 30 days before your birthday)
  • You’ll also get 15% off any order at the online Starbucks Store

  • Once you earn 5 stars, you’ll enter the Green Level
  • You’ll get all the benefits of the Welcome level, but you’ll also get free refills in the store (fresh brewed coffee, iced coffee, or tea)

  • Once you earn 30 stars within 12 months, you’ll enter the Gold Level
  • You’ll get all the benefits of the Green and Welcome level, but you’ll also get a free drink every 12 stars
  • Plus, you’ll even get a personalized Gold Card

How to Get Free Refills at Starbucks

One of the hidden perks that not too many people know about is the free in-house refills.

Basically what this means that if you happen to be inside a Starbucks doing work or reading a book or whatever, you have unlimited access to free roast coffee, iced coffee, and tea refills.

And the best part of it all is that you only need to have a registered Starbucks card, as mentioned above.

But there is a catch. In order to take advantage of these free refills, you have to be in the Green Level of Starbucks rewards, which is when you make 5 purchases with your registered card within 12 months.

Now you can order a caramel flan latte at first, and later come back and ask for cup of caramel iced coffee as a free refill. Plus, according to this article, “you can buy a Grande Cool Lime Refresher, and ask for a Iced Passion Tea in that cup as a refill.” All you need to do is give your barista your Starbucks card or scan your Starbucks app. That’s it!

And don’t worry, these free refill drinks are gluten free and vegan :)

It’s such an awesome perk that everyone needs to take advantage of, especially if you’re someone who enjoys doing work or studying at a Starbucks.

I think it’s a hack. I get refills but I only got is on the original drip coffee. Not get a latte, then refill with flavored drip coffee. It’s pretty ingenious and most people like me wouldn’t think to try it. Looks like it works on the refreshers to but I haven’t even tasted one. So, Thanks!
